Project Overview:

Adele’s ten-show residency at a purpose-built outdoor arena in Messe München, Germany, set a new benchmark in live entertainment. Attracting over 730,000 attendees, the August residency featured a Guinness World Records® title for the Largest Continuous Outdoor LED Screen (temporary). Solotech, the official video supplier, partnered with Brompton Technology to power the 220-metre-long, 20-metre-high LED screen, delivering a captivating visual experience for Adele’s nearly three-quarters-of-a-million fans.

The Challenge:

The production faced several challenges, including the need to achieve seamless, uniform visuals across thousands of ROE Visual LED tiles, ensuring reliable and redundant operation for such a massive screen at a live event. Delivering breathtaking visuals tailored to Adele’s celebrated hits, including Hello and Rolling in the Deep, required meticulous planning and the integration of cutting-edge technology.

The Solution:

Solotech harnessed Brompton’s cutting-edge Tessera technology to achieve stunning results:

• 6,200 ROE CB5 MKII LED tiles, powered by 26 Tessera SX40 LED processors and over 100 Tessera XD 10G data distribution units, enabling seamless data distribution and unmatched flexibility.
• Dynamic Calibration, enabled by Brompton’s Hydra advanced measurement system, ensured consistent brightness and colour across the expansive LED display.
• The production utilised Brompton’s Tessera v3.5 software, leveraging tools like API, Cable Redundancy, and sACN Brightness Control.

Brompton features used:

• Extended Bit Depth: Provided uniform image quality in varying lighting conditions.
• Frame Store: Enabled precise synchronisation of visual effects with Adele’s performance.

Technical challenges:

Ensuring reliability for a record-breaking outdoor LED screen required meticulous pre-production. Brompton collaborated with Solotech for over a year, including extensive testing during Adele’s Las Vegas residency and in the UK. On-site support ensured flawless implementation, showcasing the power of Brompton’s technology under live conditions.

The residency set new standards in live entertainment by delivering an immersive visual spectacle using the world’s largest continuous outdoor LED screen. This record-breaking production was a testament to innovation and teamwork, culminating in Guinness World Records recognition.
